Why do Germans hate vowels? Porque os alemães odeiam as vogais?

ENGLISH

The first country we are landing is Germany, more specifically Frankfurt. As you may know, in Germany they speak German. Now German is a very interesting language. It should be a distant cousin from English, but it has so many interesting characteristics that make it a challenging language.

One of these characteristics is that they seem to hate vowels. Not sure what the vowels did to them in the past, but that's how it is.

Take a look at a simple example:
FRANKFURT
There you go, 9 characters, only 2 vowels. WTF!!!

Though Frankfurt is not such a difficult name to say. Try saying out loud, I dare you: Mönchengladbach

Did you say outloud? If not, go back to the previous sentence and say it.

How did it feel? Nice huh!

Another nice thing is that the word for Girl (Mädchen) is neutral, i.e. not masculine and not feminine.

I'm not even talking about the cases.

The most interesting aspect though is that when Germans are speaking it doesn't sound as aggressive as it seems. It sounds soft. See this song below:
It's a song from post WWII about the losses the war causes.

Why traveling is NOT what you think it is / Porque viajar não é o que você pensa

ENGLISH

Here's the definition most people have of traveling:
It's an expensive thing that you must do very rarely and only when you need to rest.

Together with that, folks usually think of traveling like:
- Traveling to the beach with the family when you're a kid
- Traveling to some touristic location when you graduate high school
- Traveling to the beach again to rest from a full years work
- Visit the relatives

Please understand I've got nothing against that. These are all excellent examples of why traveling is amazing. However allow me to provide a few more examples of when traveling is interesting:
ALL THE TIME!!!!!!!

We are in modern times dear readers, times when no-frills airlines are making long distance trips a regular Joe thing. Times when there are millions of people traveling around the world. Times of couchsurfing, so you no longer need to stay in flashy hotels paying your monthly salary to stay a few days. You stay with couchsurfing folks for free. You can use rideshare, or even hitchhiking. There are no excuses.

IF YOU LIVE LIKE A PAWN THEN WHY DO YOU WANT TO TRAVEL LIKE A KING????

Nothing should restrain you from traveling all around. Go to different places. And not only because you want to brag about it.
It's because when people travel they open their minds!
They see the world in a different way, they put down their prejudices. And that's because they come in touch with people from all walks of life. Usually in your 9-to-5 routine you only interact with people alike. You work in IT you only know IT folks, you only make IT jokes, you only go to IT places. That's bad.

Remember that quote:
The world is a book and the people who do not travel read only the same page over and over again. (In my lazy research this quote is attributed to Saint Augustine)

That's my point. You only see the same page over and over again. You don't learn about anything else. And then you get stuck in your little bubbly world and you believe it's the only thing out there.
Traveling helps you understand better the context you are inserted in. It helps you see things from the bigger picture.
We are all human beings. And the world is not so big as it looks like.

Go traveling now. Take a vacation and go traveling. It's an investment that pays big time. You learn about the world and you become a better person. In turn you become a better professional and make more money. You are probably going to be a happier person.

I definitely regret the fact that I haven't traveled more in my life. That's something I need to address really soon! I better start practicing what I preach LOL
