There's an interesting contrast between Frankfurt and Berlin. The obvious one is that Berlin has a lot more history, while Frankfurt represents everything we have of modern life.
You can walk in the streets of Berlin and stumble on historical sites everywhere. The memories of the Wall, the division of the city, and the country as still present. As are the memories of the darkest chapter in the German history, world war II.
It's impressive to think that in 1945 Berlin was nothing but ruins, where only a few women and some kids lived. The remaining Germans either flew the country or were decimated by the allies. Today it's completely rebuilt.
We could still witness some of Berlin's not so nice neighbourhoods as we were catching the train to the Schoenefeld Airport, when whe were around Warschau Strasse. Those areas are definitely not on any Berlin's travel guides.
It's still vibrant, with a life of it's own. The history behind it makes it full of character. And the politeness of people make it a pleasure to visit.

Tem um contraste interessante entre Frankfurt e Berlin. O mais óbvio é que Berlin tem mais história, enquanto Frankfurt representa o moderno. Você caminha nas ruas de Berlin e literalmente tropeça nos sítios históricos. As memórias do Muro de Berlin, a divisão da cidade e do país ainda estão presentes. Assim como as memórias do capítulo mais negro da história alemã, a segunda guerra mundial. É impressionante pensar que em 1945 Berlin era apenas um monte de ruínas, e sobraram apenas algumas mulheres e crianças. Os homens que não conseguiram fugir morreram todos. Hoje ela está completamente reconstruída.
Nós podemos testemunhar um pouco da parte sujinha de Berlin quando pegamos o trem para o aeroporto Schonefeld, quando paramos na estação WarschauStrasse. Aquelas áreas com certeza não vão aparecer em nenhum guia da cidade.
Mesmo assim a cidade é vibrante, cheia de vida. A história por trás da cidade faz com que tenha uma personalidade marcante. E a gentileza das pessoas faz da visita um prazer.
